Gait is the way we walk or run. Everyone has a distinctive gait, though the difference may be very subtle. Many different pathologies of the lower limb are due to abnormalities in the gait. A number of neurological and orthopaedic problems have very typical gait patterns. Sometimes those gait patterns can lead to the diagnosis of the neurological problem.
Gait is all about the way we work. The way the foot functions affects everything above it and the way the more proximal structures affect the way that the foot functions. For these reasons, Podiatrists are intimately involved in the gait of people and problems with it.
